Savana Lake Resort, Nashik – A Quick Getaway From Mumbai (Review)

Savana Lake Resort

Savana Lake Resort is a lakeside hotel near Nashik offering a perfect relaxing retreat. We had such a pleasant stay here on our weekend trip from Mumbai. It is an ideal place for a short vacation if you’re looking for a respite from the chaotic city life and getting close to nature. See below our full Savana Lake Resort review.

Resort Location

The resort is located right beside the Waldevi Dam Backwaters near Nashik, off Mumbai – Nashik Highway. It is about 155 km from Mumbai and 25 km from Nashik.

If you are driving from Mumbai, cross Thane, Bhiwandi, Vasind, Kasara Ghat, Igatpuri and Ghoti Toll Plaza on Mumbai Nashik Highway. Continue on the highway for another 27 km till you reach Raigadnagar.

On the left side of the road, you will see a board of Savana Lake Resort. Take a left turn at that spot. Once there, it is around a 5-km drive through an uneven road to the resort.

The last stretch of the road is surrounded by lush hills on one side and Waldevi backwaters on the other side.

At a few places alongside the road, they have placed signages, but those are not so prominent. Google maps worked well for us in locating this place.

Checking-in

The property is hidden behind a huge gate. When we reached there, the security staff confirmed our booking with the reception and allowed our car inside.

There is ample parking space for guests. After a quick check-in, we parked our car and headed to our room.

Savana Lake Resort – Rooms

Suite Room - Savana Lake Resort

We stayed in a suite room. The moment we entered our room, we were greatly surprised to see the mesmerizing views from the window and the balcony.

Our room opened up towards the serene Waldevi lake, set in the backdrop of undulating green hills.

The room was well-appointed and spacious with a separate living area, an attached bathroom and a private balcony.

All in-room amenities, including the AC, TV, fan, refrigerator, tea-coffee maker and intercom were in working condition. We visited there in September and the weather was so amazing, we didn’t feel the need for an AC.

The bathroom was spick and span and hot water was available throughout the day.

The living room was fitted with a sofa and there was a separate space to keep luggage.

A suite is perfect for a family with up to 4 guests. They provide extra bed on request that is charged extra.

Villa Room

The property has more than twenty rooms of different categories.

Cottage rooms are perfect for smaller groups whereas villa rooms are the best for bigger groups.

The largest of all is the Orchard Family Villa that features four bedrooms, a living room and a garden-facing balcony. Book a room here.

Gorgeous Natural View from Savana Lake Resort
Amazing View From The Resort

First and foremost, the resort is set in a gorgeous hamlet beside a placid lake. The property is dotted with trees and flowering plants.

There are well-maintained lawns for taking a stroll and soaking up the beautiful landscapes. In addition, you can enjoy playing badminton or a game of cricket.

The resort also features an outdoor swimming pool and a kids play area. However, the swimming pool was closed due to the pandemic when we visited.

Upon exploring the property more, we saw a boating jetty. We were excited about a boat ride but it was closed as per the pandemic guidelines.

In normal times, they offer boating in the morning (10 am to 1 pm) and evening hours (3 pm to 6 pm).

This place attracts a lot of birds. We spotted bulbul, spice finch, Indian golden oriole, white-throated kingfisher and several other birds.

If you are passionate about birdwatching, do carry your DSLR or digital camera. With a mobile camera, it is difficult to capture birds sitting far away.

Restaurant

There is an on-site full-service restaurant that serves buffet and a-la-carte dishes. It is open for breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner.

A buffet breakfast is served daily featuring quintessential Indian breakfast items like poha, puri-bhaji, dosa, paratha and idli. Omelette is served on request.

On weekdays, they usually don’t serve buffet lunch and dinner. So, you can order from their a-la-carte menu.

The staff are courteous and very helpful. We wanted some dishes customized according to our taste and they happily honoured our request.

Apart from food, another highlight of the restaurant is its outdoor dining area that overlooks the lake. So, you can enjoy dining with a gorgeous view.

Things That Could Have Been Better

The check-in time was 1:00 pm, which we felt was a bit late.

There is no wifi at the resort. A signboard mentioned something like this: “No Wifi, Connect With Nature”. We were so impressed with the views that we didn’t bother much about wifi after a while. 🙂

Extra Tips For Visiting Savana Lake Resort

– Carry essential medicines with you because there are no shops close by. The nearest place, where you can buy medicines, is about 3-4 km away from the resort.

– Don’t leave your room windows open after sunset. If you forget, you will end up inviting dozens of insects into your room.

– At night, the place gets a wee bit cold due to cool breezes blowing from the lake. So, you may want to pack lightweight warm clothes like a sweatshirt or full-sleeve t-shirt.

An Enjoyable Stay

After a 2 nights stay at the resort, we headed back home with unforgettable memories of this place.

Overall, we were extremely delighted with our stay at the Savana Lake Resort. If you are looking for a nature getaway near Mumbai or Nashik, this is a highly recommended option.
